Some venues charge a flat price no matter how many people come — a karaoke room, a rented bar space, a bowling lane. The fair per-person price is only knowable once you know who showed up. Post-event billing handles exactly that: attendees RSVP without paying, you confirm attendance afterwards, and the app splits the total and collects each share.
Setting it up
When you create the event, tick Charge attendees after the event has concluded under How to pay. The price field becomes Total cost of the event — enter what the venue charges you. Optionally set a minimum headcount for the estimate so the number attendees see never assumes fewer people than you're committing to.
Pick the payment methods you accept as usual (card, PayPal, Zelle, cash…) — those are how attendees settle later. Ticket tiers, add-ons, promo codes and waitlists aren't available on these events; a full event simply closes. The billing mode locks once the first RSVP arrives.
We recommend Roster or QR check-in: whoever you mark present at the door is pre-ticked when you finalize.
What attendees see before the event
The event card and page show Split cost · est. X/person — the total divided by everyone going (or by your minimum headcount, whichever is larger) — with a "Paid after the event" badge. Attendees RSVP, pick how they'll pay later, and are confirmed immediately: nothing is charged, no screenshot is asked for. Their RSVP reads Confirmed · billed after the event.
Finalizing the split
Once the event has ended, open Host → your event → Payments. The morning after the event we also email you a reminder if you haven't finalized yet.
- The Finalize the split checklist lists every RSVP. Roster/QR check-ins are pre-ticked under Marked present; unmarked people sit under Not marked. On No-check-in events everyone is pre-ticked — untick the no-shows. Everyone was present and Only marked present set the whole list at once, and Mark attendance first jumps to the roster if you lost track.
- Watch the preview: headcount, share per person (total ÷ headcount, rounded up to the nearest cent), collected, and the small rounding overage you keep.
- Choose a due date (3, 7 or 14 days) and press Finalize split. The confirmation restates people × share = collected.
Everyone you ticked gets an email and an in-app notification with their exact share (×2 for a 2-person RSVP), the due date and how to pay. People you didn't tick are marked Not attended · nothing owed.
Collecting the shares
Billed attendees pay from the event page or Your RSVPs, exactly like any paid event: card settles instantly through Stripe; PayPal, Zelle and other screenshot methods land in your Payments queue for approval; cash you mark paid yourself. Approving sends a receipt rather than a QR ticket — the event is over. Paid rows show Paid — thanks for attending. Unpaid bills keep a daily in-app reminder until two weeks past the due date, and you can send email reminders from the Payments page at any time.
Fixing the roster after finalizing
- Bill at {share} — someone you missed did attend: they're billed at the same frozen share (you collect a little more than the total; the share never changes for anyone else).
- Waive bill — someone you ticked wasn't there: their bill is withdrawn and they read Not attended · nothing owed. If they had already submitted or paid, reject or refund that first.
- Undo finalize — available until the first payment is submitted; every bill is withdrawn and you can redo the checklist. After that, use the per-row actions instead.
Attendees can't cancel a bill themselves. If someone tells you they didn't attend, waive it.
Fees and rounding
The same fees as any other event apply, per share: nothing on cash or manual methods, the per-ticket platform fee plus Stripe processing on shares paid by card (passed through or absorbed per your event's fee setting). Shares round up to the nearest cent (whole unit for currencies like JPY), so the total you collect is never below the venue cost; the few cents of overage stay with you.
